Chamaedorea microspadix

Bamboo Palm, Mexican palm

This is the most Hardy Chamaedorea. It grows in open forest. Shade loving palm which has been found to be surprisingly hardy considering its delicate bamboo-like appearance.

Very easy to grow. Has been known to survive -6C. My own one did not have any damage without protection by -5C! Well worth experimenting with.

This is also an attractive house plant!

Chamaedorea radicalis

Feather palm tree

Grows at medium to high elevation in the mountain forests of Mexico.

A small palm, up to about 2m (1,5 feet) tall. Shade loving, with beautiful dark green leaves. Makes a good house plant but is also worth trying outside.

The leaves will get scorched if not acclimatised to the sun. Many people say it will die in full sun but after acclimatising it will survive. Likes alkaline soils, is quite drought tolerant and very cold hardy (-9 degrees celsius). The hardiest but slowest to grow in its genus.
